PTA officials will discuss ban on craft fairs with BCPS this Thursday - January 26th, 2011
PLEASE ATTEND THE BALTIMORE COUNTY PTA COUNCIL MEETING
THIS THURSDAY, JANUARY 27, 7 PM, AT LOCH RAVEN HIGH SCHOOL TO ASK ABOUT RULE 1300 AND THE PERMANENT BAN ON CRAFT FAIRS !
Two key people from BCPS Operations, Bill Wingerd and John Damron, are going to be at the meeting to discuss Rule 1300, which governs school-use. We have also invited local government and state elected officials to come to this meeting. We need a big turnout at this meeting!
We need to be armed with facts:
How much money has gone directly to the schools because of these events?
We need people to say, what would be lost in terms of resources, enrichment, and support?
We’ve emailed information on the PTA Council meeting to our membership at Loch Raven and Ridgely Middle.
Can you all do the same? This rule really affects a lot of people in the community and many schools, now and in the future.
If your school and/or your PTA has been affected by BCPS prohibiting community-based activities that benefit your school, please come to this meeting and ask why!

Special Attention To Residents Of The Upper Timonium / East Padonia Road Area Of Precinct 7 - January 21, 2011
As you are aware, Firefighter Mark Falkenhan, a member of this community's Lutherville Volunteer Fire Company, died Wednesday evening while fighting a multi-alarm fire in the Hillendale area of Baltimore County.
Firefighter Falkenhan's Line-of-Duty Honors funeral service will be held on Monday, January 24, 2011, 11:00 AM at The Cathedral of Mary our Queen, located at 5200 N. Charles Street in Baltimore City. Interment will be at the Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens on E. Padonia Road following the church service and procession from the Cathedral.
We expect that the funeral procession will leave the Cathedral no earlier than 12:15 PM. The procession will proceed north on I-83 and then east onto Padonia Road, across York Road and to the cemetery. This is expected to be a very large, extended procession, with numerous fire apparatus from within Maryland and surrounding states. There WILL be traffic delays in the area. Our best estimate of the time frame of these delays will be somewhere between 12:15 PM and 5:00 PM, with the majority of delays being between 1:00 and 3:00 PM.
Though numerous police officers will be stationed along the route of the procession, we strongly advise that if you plan to be in the area, plan an alternate (particularly south-to-north / north-to-south) route by means of Pot Spring Road, Dulaney Valley Road, Thornton Road, or Falls Road to avoid the congestion along York Road. The "widest" portion of n-s / s-n affected areas will be I-83 on the west and Girdwood Road on the east. If you can plan to travel on the borders of that corridor, you will avoid most of the traffic stoppages. East-west and west-east movement along Timonium Road on the south and Warren Road on the north is a better route during this time frame.
As you know, it is very difficult to predict the full extent of the traffic congestion and the times that it will occur. Accordingly, I suggest that any travel within that boxed area described above be done via the box borders between 12:15 and 5:00 PM to account for the incoming procession and for traffic leaving the cemetery after interment.
"Peddlers & Hucksters" Bill Passes County Council - Frank Regan
The "Greater Timonium Community Council" working closely with our County Councilman, Bryan McIntire with support from the Pot Spring, Valley Garth, Springlake, The Oaks, Pine Valley, Huntridge, Lutherville and Fox Chapel Community Associations was successful in having the Baltimore County Council pass, ' unanimously ' the new "Peddlers & Hucksters" Bill on October 5th at the County Council Meeting held in Towson ! ! !
This Bill goes into effect (45) days from now and basically requires all Peddlers & Hucksters to be 1) Liscenced through the County, 2) Limit soliciation to hours between 9:00AM and 5:00PM or Dusk 3) Requires "No Solicitation" at homes or Communities that post "No Solicitation" signs at their residents or Community Entrances. ( See the attached Bill - "Adopted Peddlers & Hucksters Bill".pdf )
A hearty "Thanks" to all the GTCC Member Associations that stepped forward and participated in working on getting this Bill passed by the County Council.
Additionally, a special "Thanks" goes out to Marge DiNardo and Eric Rockel for their efforts in trying to keep this legislation moving forward.
This important 'new' piece of legislation certainily goes a long way in trying to limit Peddlers and Hucksters from bothering us in our neighborhood !
